fat bottom girls make the rockin world go round

Or at least that's what Freddie Mercury thought. And let's face it, shouldn't everything he said be godsend?

"Hey Freddie! How bout you come back from rock heaven and teach these full-of-it, itty-bity chasing crazies where it's really at?"

If only the rock gods could hear my crys... Either way, they'd be about 18 years late on responding. But that's normally the plight of the perpetually "big-boned" - everything's a day late and a dollar short in materializing .

Like what you say? Oh, like my self confidence. That took too many "Big Bertha" elementary school taunts, ill-fitting pairs of jeans, psychotic crash diets, and wasted bathroom-floor tears to come around. In a world that continues to worship stick-thin models and fad diets, we fat-bottom girls get the short end of the stick. We are socially, psychologically and emotionally tormented into thinking we'll never be good enough. And I'd be crazy to say I've but a helpless victim... all too often I've let it happen.

But now, on the precarious edge of turning 25, with my life finally shaping up around me, I think it's about time to let that inner queen out and shape up the outside for a change.

So as crazy as it sounds, especially for a chunker like me, I've decided to complete a triathalon. Luckily, motivation was waiting for the perpetually-unmotivated me -- swimming, biking and running to raise money (over $3500) that helps find a cure for a cause near and dear to my heart, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. What's more then that, I've made a pledge to myself (and I guess now to anyone that just happens to read this), to do more than just finish - I pledge to take 5 months, lose 50 pounds and to clock a total of at least 500 miles to change my life for the better.

Today's Jam: "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen (Jazz, 1978)
Tri this Emotion: Cautiously Optimistic
The Be-All End-All Attitude: World bring it on... and Freddie, watch out, 'cause this girl is gonna let it all hang out.
